Review: Infamous Friday 16/02/2024 The Big Top Western Parklands Well, it’s a Big Top, it’s a Circus, it is on at Ellis Park (on West Terrace near corner Donald Bradman Drive) and you can park nearby. Once in the amazing structure it is easy to see that this production is well produced by experts in the craft who know just how to put on a Circus.

That is because before Infamous, they were Ashtons, perhaps Australia’s most famous Circus troupe.

Forget the circus of old, this was a kaleidoscope of cabaret, dance, singing, comedy and breathtakingly dangerous stunts. Don’t forget that this is an R18 show and does feature some in context nudity. The custom-built Big Top has a fantastic bar and air-conditioning that would make even the hottest night bearable. There are cabaret style tables in the front row around the arena that guarantee interaction with members of the over 20 cast.

The opening dancers were slick, but it was the skipping, monocycle riding Wheel of Death duo that had my heart in my mouth. There were beautiful and tasteful aerials, a line balancing bike riding juggler and a fantastic vocal rendition of “Black and Gold”. The performers were all in perfect sculptured shape as one would expect from their sheer physical control and feats of strength in each section of the show. Watch out for the man in the Balloon, just too funny. Infamous is a sexy, dangerous, mesmerising and immersive feast of entertainment.

Infamous from start to finish presents thrilling, jaw dropping and sometimes hilarious moments that are well worth the price of a ticket. The venue is superb, the bar is great, and the show is well paced over 2 hours with a break in the middle. Even though the 2024 season has just started, Director Michelle Jarman may just have produced the best Circus style act of the Fringe.

Infamous plays nightly at Ellis Park Tuesday to Sunday evenings for the duration of the Fringe. 5 Stars
