The Adelaide Fringe Awards are given to acknowledge outstanding events presented within the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Program.
Judged by a panel of international and national arts industry leaders, the Adelaide Fringe Awards are predominately delivered in two parts:
The Weekly Awards, presented each Thursday night during the Adelaide Fringe at the Fringe Club
The BankSA Awards, presented to the overall ‘best’ event from each art-form at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Award Ceremony
External presenters will also distribute a variety of awards at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Award Ceremony, offering an assortment of prizes including funding for further production/company development, promotion, mentorship and tour opportunities.
The 2017 Adelaide Fringe Award Ceremony will be held at the Fringe Club on Sunday 19th March 2017
All Adelaide Fringe registered events with 3 or more sessions and a season commencing prior to Wednesday 15th March 2017 are eligible for judging, unless the presenting company has specifically requested not to be included in the judging process.
Events within the EVENT, FILM & DIGITAL and MUSIC art-form categories that have less than 3 sessions are still eligible for judging, due to the ‘one-off’ nature of many of these events.
Variety shows, with a changing line-up of acts throughout their season, are not eligible for an Award.
By opting in to the Fringe Awards you agree to make avaliable, up to ten complimentary tickets for judges.
The Weekly Awards
The Adelaide Fringe Weekly Awards will be judged by our panel of leading industry experts. Presented each week throughout the Fringe, they will aim to give an award to whom they deem are the best events in each art-form category.
Judges will also aim to give a ‘Weekly’ to whom they believe is the best emerging artist(s) that they have seen that week. This award aims to highlight the lesser-known, undiscovered gems within the Fringe program.
The Judges themselves will decide which events they will attend from the art-form(s) they are specifically judging, working in consultation with the Awards Program Coordinator to determine their schedules and shortlists. Artists will be required to allocate up to 10 complimentary Judges’ tickets in order to be considered for an Award.
Additionally, the Awards Program will introduce a team of Awards Scouts, made up of dedicated Adelaide Fringe representatives who will attend events and provide vital feedback for the Judges panel, to assist in determining the Award outcomes.
The BankSA Awards
The BankSA Awards are given to the overall outstanding event in each art-form category.
Final nominees for the BankSA Awards will include selected Weekly Award winners as well as other outstanding events, as determined by the Judges panel. Winners will be announced at the Closing Awards Ceremony held at the Fringe Club on Sunday 19th March 2017.
Art-form categories are:
Best Children’s Presentation
Best Circus & Physical Theatre
Best Film & Digital
Best Visual Art & Design
BankSA Pick of the Fringe Award
The BankSA Pick of the Fringe Award is selected by Adelaide Fringe and BankSA. The Pick of the Fringe Award will also be presented weekly, at the Adelaide Fringe Weekly Awards.
Adelaide Fringe Emerging Artist(s) Award
This award supports an artist(s) presenting fresh and innovative new work, who are in the early stages of their artistic career(s). The Emerging Artist Award will also be presented weekly, at the Adelaide Fringe Weekly Awards.
John Chataway Innovation Award
In memory of John Chataway, Deputy Chairperson on the Adelaide Fringe Board who sadly passed away in 2010. This award is presented to the production which best demonstrates innovation, originality, and excellence within its art-form or in the arts in general. John was an accomplished Director who specialised in creative strategies for combining digital technologies with a broad range of communication channels.
Adelaide Fringe also partners with a variety of external presenters, who generously offer an assortment of Awards and prizes including funding for further production/company development, promotion, mentorship and tour opportunities. All external awards are presented at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Award Ceremony on Sunday, 19 March at the Fringe Club.
