Dressing the Dancer

• World Dance
Journey through a dancer's wardrobe and you will find a treasure trove of exotic costumes, textiles and adornments from the Middle East, India, Spain and beyond. Beautiful braids, diamantes, sequins, silk, kuchi and veils. Era and style, you will be amazed at the detail in the costumes that took Oriental Dance from the desert to the stage.

As you experience our exhibition of costuming, dance props and adornments from the many styles and eras of Middle Eastern Dance you will have the opportunity to learn more about this ancient art form and it's evolution. Included in the exhibition will be photographs and memorabilia from some of the legends of Middle Eastern Dance in Adelaide and Australia. Belly Dance Arabesque can't wait to share the rich costuming that adorns the dance we love.

Presented by: Belly Dance Arabesque

Belly Dance Arabesque is the longest established school of Middle Eastern Dance in Adelaide. Founded by Shamira Rochford in the 90's and continued on by Regan Gardner since 2011, Belly Dance Arabesque prides itself on a long history of dance in the Adelaide community. Arabesque principles and teachers have trained, taught and performed both locally, interstate and internationally at professional levels. They share their skills and knowledge in a supportive environment where music, dance and joy flourish and are regular performers at events all over Adelaide and Australia. With a love of the diversity of Middle Eastern Dance from its classical and folkloric heritage to its modern transformations, the studio and its dancers will have a large collection of wonderful costumes on display.
