Old Jewish Jokes

Comedy • Stand Up

They say Jews are funny, 'Old Jewish Jokes' proves it. Ivor Dembina, the UK's leading Jewish comedian presents the Adelaide premier of his country's longest running and most successful ever Jewish comedy show.

In a sparkling hour of wit, charm and occasional wickedness, he tells some of his favourite traditional kosher gags while giving us his brilliantly funny take on the life of the modern Jewish comic. A perennial hit at the Edinburgh fringe. It sells out every year. The beauty of the show is that it not only appeals to Jews and non-Jews alike, but it's also consistently enjoyed by youngsters as well as older people too.

Old Jewish Jokes is an adult show in the best sense of the word: funny, intelligent and just challenging enough to leave you thinking as well as laughing.

The press reviews tell the story: (★★★★★ BroadwayBaby), (★★★★ Scotsman), (★★★★ The Mirror), (★★★★ Threeweeks).

Ivor Dembina is the UK's funniest Jewish stand-up comedian. He cleverly uses the flavour of traditional Jewish humour to tackle modern subjects. His current solo show 'Old Jewish Jokes' is also his most popular one. It’s based upon the true story of a Jewish comedian who is booked to perform at a synagogue function but who, on the night, is given a list of ‘touchy’ things he is not allowed to joke about. Consistently strong reviews and fantastic audience responses - by those of all backgrounds - have made this, the UK's longest-running and most successful-ever Jewish comedy show. His first show 'Stand-Up Jewish Comedy' (1994) was a comic account of his upbringing as a north London Jew. 'Sadojudaism' (1998) used humour to talk about the subjects of prostitution and fetishism as seen through Jewish eyes. And, Ivor's most controversial offering, 'This is Not a Subject for Comedy' (2005), was a highly personal comedic account of his time spent in Israel and Palestine during the conflict.
