What Doesn't Kill You
What Doesn't Kill You by Sally Hardy is a topical play that raises questions regarding the effects of domestic violence on impressionable young men. Performed using both film and live mediums, the performance is about a group of soccer boys out in the bush who discover their Coach is missing. What happened to Coach?
What Doesn't Kill You adopts a Pinter style in which characters mask their vulnerability in their dialogue and uncomfortable silences. Characters are designed to model the prevalence of domestic violence in real life households in Australia, with the aim to unveil the raw collateral damage that also affects the next generation as the chain of violence continues. As confusion and internal conflict rises, the characters begin to break down.
The play is a representation of the positive and negative aspects to male identity through behaviour and relationship.
