How much does it cost for human values? Underneath the glittering façade of the global financial centre with highest housing cost in the world, are we still able to find a place called “Home”? Inspired by a street sleeper, the work assesses the predicament of contemporary Hong Kong, a city where the “great dream” is also stressing the people out. Entering the inner worlds of two figures; one is forsaken by the materialistic city and the other tries hard to fit into the ridiculous world, what can you see?
Created by Max Lee, “Hong Kong’s most vibrant dancer with new dimensions today”, the work questions the once-invincible belief that is now exhausting both Hong Kongers and Australians. After two-times-commissioned by the HK Arts Festival, his latest work manifests a unique way of story-telling with dance and theatrical elements.

Founded by Max Lee from Hong Kong, Room 9 Dance Theatre’s productions include: Room 9 (2011), Silence Box (2012) and Talk to Me (2013) both commissioned by Hong Kong Arts Festival; short piece Apple and the Fly (2013) independent production Home (2015) and Galaxy Dreamer (Hong Kong premiere in 2015 and China tour in 2016).
Driven by the founder’s adventurous desire, Room 9 draws creative inspiration from questioning our faith towards existence and human nature in its subconscious level and its relationship with the society. By dissolving the intrinsic barrier between dance and theatre, Room 9 constantly strives for the unity in multimedia performances, in an attempt to push the boundaries of conventional theatre and search for alternatives to express our thoughts and emotions.
For years the company has collaborated with artists from different disciplines, of which the ensemble has incorporated dance, theatre, music, installation and videography into the creative process.
