A Modern Guide to Heroism & Sidekickery

Theatre and Physical Theatre • Cross-Artform
SA Premiere
A superhero story that refuses to read like a comic book. Michelle Zahner joyfully mixes movement, poetry & comedy to work out how being a "superhero" in the "real world" really works. How do you rescue people from depression, or a broken friendship? How do you fight a cyclone, or rabid llamas, or the patriarchy? What do you call a male damsel? And shouldn't there be a villain somewhere?

With limited powers and more responsibility than she wants, she finds herself dealing with media hype, impossible expectations, protest groups and sponsorship deals. Batman never had to deal with this s**t.

Michelle invites the audience to be a part of the story, to add their own questions. To take responsibility for the stories we tell ourselves, each other and maybe even take up a mask of their own.

Presented by: Michelle Zahner

Michelle Zahner creates work in theatre and circus. She has performed in Edinburgh, London and across Australia with companies including; Vulcana Women’s Circus, Violet & Veruca, The Representatives, Screen Rebels, Black Fox Theatre and Pentimento Productions. Her work joyfully explores the absurdities of life, the messes we make for ourselves, and why somedays we’d rather watch Netflix than live our lives.

Previously she co-wrote/produced ‘HolePunch’ (Adelaide Fringe, Anywhere Festival & 2High Festival) with Violet & Veruca, Heckler magazine said they were “Really funny... clearly very talented performers”, which was nice of them. 'A Modern Guide to Heroism & Sidekickery' is her debut solo show. She's super excited to share it with you.
