Once Upon a Pop Star!

Theatre and Physical Theatre • Comedy

Emerging artist Yvonne McAulay is Yolanda; the new princess of pop! Also an anxious, obsessive compulsive germophobe with stage fright.

Yolanda wholeheartedly believes that stardom is the key to her happiness and that if she is famous, people will have to be her friend. Imagine growing up in a tower with music videos as your only link to the outside world until you were rescued by... No, not a prince in shining armour. Child services. Consequently, Yolanda is a little bit out of touch with the outside world but committed to find her own happy ending.

A hilarious, dark, yet heartfelt exploration into the fantasy versus reality of fairytales and pop icons. Questioning whether their influence is empowering, damaging or both. A fusion of storytelling, clown and musical comedy.

This is the debut solo show by Flinders University Drama Centre graduate Yvonne McAulay, recipient of the Helpmann Academy Elevate Mentorship Program. Directed and mentored by local artist Hew Parham.
